I'm a high achiever- I know how to get things done. I have been successful in my career, my educational pursuits and other goals....but my weight, shape and relationship with food was the one thing in my life I just couldn't get a grip on. Struggling with food is not a lack of willpower. It's not laziness.
For me, it was about the constant mind screw that food had become in my life. It was the constant battle between feeling like I should eat less and move my body more, but then when I did, the overwhelming feelings of deprivation would eventually overwhelm me, I'd say F it and binge on my "bad" foods and then hate myself. The sad reality was that food had also become the only thing that helped me to feel a little better in those moments of frustration and pain, even if just for a moment.
It was like being stuck on a flipping hamster wheel from hell. I know you know what I mean.
And guess what? ALL the women I support in my therapy clinic nowadays tell me they feel the exact same way I did. It's like hearing my own story on repeat, we're all stuck on that same hamster wheel. And yet, we all feel so alone in this journey, but let me tell you....based on my own lived experience, and on the stories of the women I support....

The next morning, you wake up with a heavy sense of shame, a binge-hangover. You’re left feeling stuck in this pattern—too embarrassed to talk about it, too tired to try anything different.
